Night had fallen over Henley Falls, an environment still entirely new to the young, red head. Lilian couldn't have been asleep for more than an hour. The growth rate of the child that she carried was taking its toll on her, despite how much she may not have wanted to admit it. That wasn't exactly the only thing that she didn't want to admit, and not just to herself.
Lily had been in the safe haven for just about a month, and a long month at that. She didn't speak much... or smile, or laugh for that matter. The girl didn't even leave the house unless her brother was with her. It was safe to say that Lily was a broken girl, scared beyond belief. It was so unlike everything that she had once stood for.
Nobody knew about what had happened to her, not even her own brother. She always knew when the question was on the tip of someone's tongue though. Maybe it was the uneasy silence that always clued her in, or the burning look of pity and curiosity that lurked in their eyes. Whatever it was, Lily always found a way to avoid the subject, often with a change of topic, a well thought up question directed elsewhere, or sometimes a pure, lucky distraction.
Nobody knew so much as a single detail about what had happened to her since the outbreak. She hadn't even told her siblings about the death of their parents and sister, let alone who the father of her unborn child was. As much as she would have liked to hide her pregnancy, it was next to impossible. Confusion wracked her brain almost constantly. She didn't know whether to love the child or hate it, to care for it or give it away. As far as planning for the child... she had done nothing. She was just trying to convince herself that the problem would go away if she ignored it; she didn't want to make any decisions. Too bad that wasn't going to happen.
Lily's sleep was an uneasy one and not just because of her growing, bodily discomfort. She couldn't even remember the last time she had had a decent night's rest. Her sheets were twisted around her legs, the rest of her covers having been kicked off. It was likely that the others were still awake. Light was peeking in from the crack beneath the door of her bedroom and the wind blew against the side of the house, whistling past.
With a sudden jolt, Lily woke in a panic, sitting upright. "NOOOOO!" she screamed, pure terror in her voice. The dream had been so real, it was like reliving the whole thing over again. Heart pounding and chest heaving, Lily felt tears sliding down her face. She could still hear the sound of the gunshot that killed Katie playing over and over in her head.
Wrapping her arms around herself, she couldn't stop from crying. Her hands even slid to her growing belly, over which she wore one of her brother's black tee shirts, along with a pair of shorts. She wanted Katie... she wanted Katie to hold her and stroke her hair, telling her everything was going to be alright and that she would help her care for the baby, like she had promised. She wanted Katie to tell her that her life wasn't over and that she wasn't alone. She wanted her mother to wipe away her tears and her father to give her a big hug. She just wanted her family back.
Her sobs were uncontrollable and, for once, she didn't care if her brother or sister heard her. What she needed more than anything was to stop trying to block what had happened and tell someone. Still, how on earth could she tell someone that her parents were dead or infected, and, worst of all, she and her sister had been raped before Katie was murdered while trying to get Lily away? Then again... how long could she hold that in before she exploded?

Alex woke up with a short jolt after hearing his sister yell. He threw the covers off, tumbled from his bed and bolted out of the room and down the hall toward Lily's room. He skidded slightly on the carpet runner, but managed to push open her door quickly and come to a halt in the middle of her room, chest heaving and blue eyes wide. When his eyes came into focus he saw her curled up and crying. The tall blond relaxed somewhat, nothing was attacking her so he didn't need to be in attack mode. Taking in a deep breath while trying to calm his twitching nerves, Alex ran a hand along the back of his neck and gazed at Lily for a second or two longer before stepping forward, his bare feet almost silent on the wood floor.
He was just in boxers, long black socks and a grey tee. He sort of felt exposed in front of his sister, but he wasn't going to turn around to put pants on now. Besides, she seemed to distracted to care anyway. The bed creaked slightly as he put his weight on it, scooting closer to her. Alex knew she didn't really have that much longer in her pregnancy left and this fact scared him more than anything outside Henley's gates. Just being around her in the past month he saw more changes in her than he'd ever experienced with her. She was broken, that he knew. Not only that but she didn't seem to be the typical pregnant female. She hardly ever talked about it, and when it was brought up she didn't seem to happy about it. This topic Alex didn't like to dance around, but he felt as if he didn't have a choice. He was walking on eggshells when he was around Lily, she seemed like the smallest thing could be said and she was blow up and loose her sanity, so being the gentle person he really was inside he didn't push the matter. Though as he watched her cry again, he knew something needed to be resolved. Lily was hiding something, repressing something that was eating away at her and he knew she wouldn't be better unless this topic was brought up. He didn't know where the rest of his family was, and it pained him. His mother was always the one to bring up the topic that no one wanted to discuss. She never cared, and once the topic whatever it may be, was talked about everything seemed to get better. Alex knew it was in his hands now, whether he planned on playing mother or not, he was going to have to try.
He put a hand on her delicate shoulder and then pulled himself closer to her, pulling her in for a hug before telling her to relax. "It was a dream." He said, cooing to her in a tone that didn't seem to fit the towering hulk of hunter that he was. "Only a dream.. now relax... please..."
Alex held his sister until he crying simmered to a few hiccuping breaths. His body was starting to grow more and more tensed, he knew what needed to come next and with a shallow gulp he turned his blue eyes toward his sister, now that he was able to see her face better in the dark he asked in a warm but almost demanding tone, "Things need to be addressed, Lily." He tried his best not to break his prodding tone. "Things won't get better if you keep hiding the truth." He said this as gently as he could, and his blue eyes slowly fell to her stomach, then back up to her face.

Lily didn't move at first when she felt her brother's arms wrap around her. It felt like forever, but her tears finally slowed and she tried to catch her breath. Though she was reluctant to hear what he had to say, everything was on the tip of her tongue, ready to be spilled out. She couldn't hold it in anymore, there was no use. It was eating at her and it would continue to do so until there was nothing left.
"It was horrible, Alex..." she said to him, her voice soft, but broken. She rested her head against his chest and closed her eyes, trying to keep herself calm. It took her a few moments, but she finally opened her mouth and it all just came spilling forth. "We were boarded up in the house until they managed to get in. They.... they took them down... mom and dad. Katie and I were the only ones who got out of there." As she spoke, Lily could stop herself from remembering her parents' deaths.
"We weren't on our own long... We came across those men; they'd escaped from a local prison during the outbreak." For a moment, she stopped, unsure of whether or not she wanted to continue on with her story. She had to though. "The one who tried to shoot you, his name was Dan...." Her voice trailed off for a moment and she pulled away from Alex a little, sitting up straight. Her hands ran over her stomach and she felt, for a moment, as if she were going to be sick. Her eyes were starting to well up again and her breathing picked up.
"I swear, I didn't want to do it, I didn't want to do anything with him, Alex. I tried to stop him, I did. It was horrible." Lily was shaking, wanting nothing more than to crawl into a hole and die. "I should have done more to stop him, I know, but I wasn't strong enough." It was her fault, in her mind. If she had been strong or quick enough, he never would have touched her let alone rape her. The man was over twice her age and size though, there was nothing she could have done to stop him. Sobs wracked Lily's body and she was filled completely with shame and disgust for herself. She couldn't even form the words to tell him that Dan was the baby's father, though she probably didn't need anymore words for him to realize this.

It was almost as if he were in a car accident. The kind of accident that you knew was going to happen, but no matter how hard you hit the brakes or turned the wheel, the pain was soon going to engulf you. That was how he felt, knowing Lily was going to start talking. Part of him didn't want to know what really happened, but it was too late to turn back now. A horror movie, the hiding-behind-you-hands-only-to-look-between-your-fingers kind of movie and he was drawn in even though he was regretting every second of it.
It was a head on crash after he heard about his parents and he swore his heart lurched and sputtered slightly in his chest. He wanted to admit the fact that he doubted his parents were alive, but at the same time he played it out like they were still out there and they would just be separated. But that fact that he heard it from his sister, that she had been there when his parents died, well that put a new perspective on things.
The car was now spiraling toward an oncoming car and he felt his grip tighten around his sister as he stared at the far side of her bedroom, trying to keep his breathing slow and quiet. That man, that fucking asshole. A second crash and now the car was flipping over and over again. He was so disoriented it didn't seem possible that he didn't loose it right there while he did his best to keep her together along with keeping himself from tearing at he seams.
It wasn't until she was done talking did he feel the first rack of shaking from not her body, but his own. Whether it was from the rage or the pure terror and sadness that blinded the rest of his being he didn't know, but there was no stopping him anymore. His breathing ended up breaking through and it quivered with every exhale. He was still holding his sister, although loosely now, his body was tensed and his jaw was tight. He felt his chest tighten and stop and he had to pull away. He was up off the bed and standing facing away from her, his whole body was shaking from anger. "He did this to you?" He said in a low tone, his blue eyes staring at a mirror that faced the bed. He was staring at his sister, the little red head he remembered being the most innocent out of his siblings, the one he tried to protect but failed at, and not only because she was stubborn, but because he wasn't there. She was defenseless in that manner and now she was with child because of it. With child because some sick fuck couldn't control himself. The images were literally making him sick, so sick. Once the car stopped spinning he stopped thinking.
His fists balled, and shaking with strain he took a right hook swing and punched the mirror with a loud scream, shattering it to pieces. "THAT SON OF A BITCH RUINED YOU!" He screamed so loud it seemed like the house shook. He didn't mean to scare her, but that wasn't really his biggest problem right now. He swung again and punched a hole through the drywall in her bedroom. "I didn't even kill him! I knew I should have killed him! Something told me to kill him!" Tears blinded his vision as he turned back to look at his sister, his chest heaving and his face stricken with this disgusted look. "Oh my god..." He heaved and then let out another scream.
The young hunter told himself he wasn't going to let this get the best of him, he almost expected half of it, and he probably would have been able to keep his cool if she had only told him about his parents, but the second half of the story totally threw him off guard. His adrenaline was too high to feel the pain, but he looked down to see his hand bleeding. He let his head fall against the wall and he leaned heavily into it, almost shielding himself away from his sister when it hit him. Through heaving breaths, he said almost scared, "Where's Katie?" A shiver wracked his body at the thought of what she would say. He was broken now, nothing more was holding him together anymore. This world was getting more and more fucked up....

Lily could only nod her head when Alex asked her if Dan had been the one to get her pregnant. She could feel bile rising in the back of her throat, though she held it back. Her crying only worsened when Alex started going ballistic. She could hardly breath through her sobs and the crash from him smashing her mirror made her jump. All she could do was curl up into a ball, covering her ears to block out the horrendous screams her brother was letting out. All she could think was that he was right.... she was ruined. Dan had destroyed her completely. It was with that thought that Lily gave up on any hope that she may have had about things ever going back to normal. Alex was right, her life may as well have been over.
Grabbing her pillow and hugging it tight, she couldn't bring herself to look at Alex. After only a moment it was soaked with her tears. For a moment, she couldn't even bring herself to tell him about Katie and she shook her head, trying to get some air. It was a good minute before she could even finish her story.
"K-katie found out I was p-pregnant..." she said, on the verge of hyperventilating. "She was trying to get me out of there and they..." She erupted into sobs again, the thought still causing her such agony. "They shot her..." It was a good thing that Lily had finished talking because she wasn't quite sure if she was even capable of talking anymore.
Her stress must have been unbearable for the baby as well; he... or she, was kicking up a storm. Wincing through her tears, Lily pressed her hands to her growing stomach, trying to calm down. If Lily's world had not already ended, it was certainly ending right then and there. She avoided so much as glancing at Alex, not wanting to see the disgust in her brother's eyes.

The closer she got to telling him what happened to Katie, Alex vaguely wished they had separated and she could still be out there safe and sound. That thought was way too good to be true. When Lily finally blurted out that his sister had been shot and killed he honestly had nothing left in him. His heart was racing a mile a minute but he couldn't find the words to say anything, but he just wanted to scream anything and everything. He felt lost for a second when he found his eyes finding Lily's. "I'm going back. I'm going to find him... and I'm going to kill him slowly..." He said this in an almost calm tone while he shook. His crystal blue eyes sparked somewhat and he pulled himself away from the wall, his body was eerily tense. He looked at her one last time and then muttered something incoherent under his breath before leaving the room.
In an almost creepy daze the hunter found his way back into his room, and started to dress himself warmer. All the while he was plotting on how to kill the mother fucker who ruined his family. He pulled on his boots and then made his way down the stairs despite hearing Lily calling after him. "What should I use to destroy him?" He said mostly to himself, thinking about the types of knives and other weapons he had. He was so enraged he didn't know if he'd make it out of the gates without shooting someone in the process.
He had already started to load his belt with weapons and things, and then strapped a gun to his back when he saw Lily running down the stairs. He just blinked at her. "I'll teach him to fuck with my family." Alex said this almost growling, his blue eyes seeming to catch fire. He turned to walk away, his back facing her. "Stay here and stay warm. I promise I won't be too long." He said with a slight snarl....

"No..." Lily tried to steady herself and slow her tears. Her blood ran cold at his words and the most terrified feeling ever washed over her entire body. Her face was completely blanched and she stumbled out of her bed and after him. "Alex, please, you don't know him," she pleaded, numb with fear as she followed him into his room. Her growing belly was slowing her down, but she wasn't going to let it stop her. Dan wasn't just some ordinary troublemaker. The man had escaped from a prison for crying out loud and had shamelessly killed god knows how many people. Alex was the only person Lily had left, her only family. If something happened to him then Lily wouldn't have anyone. Nearly slipping down the stairs didn't even stop Lily as she chased after her brother.
"PLEASE?!" She was practically screaming at him through her tears. The moment she ran outside after him, the cold air hit her like a wall of ice. Wearing only a pair of short shorts and a tee shirt, it was safe to say that Lily was just about freezing. The feel of the cold ground was just about unbearable as the bitter winter air whipped at her hair and face. "ALEX, STOP! PLEASE!" It was hard for her to keep up with his long strides, especially in her condition, but she couldn't let him go after Dan. Lily wanted Dan dead more than anyone, but she wasn't willing to lose the only family member she had left.
She was panicking, desperately trying to think of what to do to stop him. She could fake going into labor. In his state of mind though, she wasn't convinced that he would stop even if her water broke all over the street. Feeling as though she was going to turn into a popsicle, Lily managed to grab a hold of the back of her brother's shirt. She tried to pull him back, but she was hardly even slowing him down as he merely dragged her along. Her cold, bare feet scraped painfully against the ground. She wanted to curse at him, she wanted to yell and scream and throw something... anything at him. She even wanted to hit him for not listening to her.
Finally, she couldn't hold onto or keep up with him anymore. Falling painfully onto her knees and shivering so much that her lips were paling, Lily did nothing to slow or stop her tears anymore. STOP!" she screamed, giving one last effort to get him to stop going after Dan. She wasn't going to go back to the house without her brother, even if it meant freezing to death in the middle of the street.

Alex could hardly hear her over the rage that ran through his body and the thoughts of slaughtering the man who had done this to his only living sister. His deep blue eyes held nothing but a blank and almost lost look while he pulled forth his rage and used it to fuel his ever quickening pace, his boots crunching over the frozen dirt while he tried to ignore Lily's pleading cries from behind him. "No Lily, I need to. You don't understand." He felt as thought she didn't understand, but she did. There would be no one else in this world that would understand more so than her. Bad images of Lily and Dan floated into his brain and when she pleaded to him it only made things worse. How can someone rape a woman with her screaming and crying like that? The thought made Alex shiver harsher than the frigid air surrounding him.
He felt her grabbing onto his shirt, but she was merely a fly he could swat away. She may have been stubborn but her strength didn't match his for a second. "Go back in the house Lily. I'll be back as soon as I can." He grunted. He felt himself cringe at the sound of her body hitting the cold ground behind him, and as much as it pained him Alex's didn't turn to see if she was alright. Instead he stiffened up and strode on closing his eyes tight at the sound of her screaming for him to stop. Images of Dan touching his sister again floated disgustingly around in his brain and he felt his fists tighten up until he picked up his stride until he was running farther away from his sister and toward the gate. He couldn't deal with this, not until he felt the life draining out from Dan's body....

There was no mistaking the sounds of a woman screaming outside. Flying down the stairs of her own house, Lydia was loading her hand gun, just in case. You could never be too careful during a zombie apocalypse. She saw the crying girl just down the street and her feet carried her to her as fast as she could possibly go. Her black boots skidded across the ground as she came to a halt beside the crying, pregnant girl. She looked even younger than herself. Before Lydia could even ask her what was wrong, the girl was telling her to stop him, to stop Alex. Looking up, she saw him just up the road, his tall, familiar figure. She had no idea what he had done to the poor girl, but she was going to kill him for it.
Running up behind him, Lydia suddenly jumped onto his back, smacking him upside the head multiple times. She wouldn't let go, her thighs gripping him tightly, one arm wrapped around his neck. "What are you doing?!" she yelled at him, not knowing what had happened or where he was going. What she did know was that there was a panicking, pregnant teen screaming for him in the middle of the street. Lydia may as well have been glued to Alexander's back, her hand gun's safety on while it was now tucked into the back of her pants."What did you do, you asshole?!" Despite everything Lydia and Alex had been through together so far... Lydia had no problem yelling at him for whatever he did or didn't do.
