in his sleep
Another Varden? Had he heard this correct? It had been three days since he'd been out of the quarantine section of Henley Falls and he was more than happy he hadn't turned into a Zombie like the asshole guards thought he would. He knew deep down the injury wasn't viral related, but being safe was being safe, he only felt bad that Lydia had gotten stuck with him. The red headed woman seemed to relax somewhat when they were stuck together, she even fell asleep before he had that night, he still recalled the soft noise of her breathing while she slept. He wasn't positive, but it almost felt like he was at peace for the first time since he'd been stuck in this town.
Now his heart fluttered uncontrollably as he left his residential home. He had been given time off till his leg healed properly before he went out on anymore raids. The Sheriff seemed to hold some sort of pity for him since Alex hadn't turned and was put in that cell for no reason. The hunter didn't mind, he had been sleeping late for the past three days and hardly left the house at all other than to pick up his rations for the household yesterday. His gait was slightly altered because of the limp he was forced to have. Lydia had cleaned the wound out better than he had, but after being released from the cell he was sent to the hospital and the wound was stitched. This had hurt him worse than the actual wound itself, not to mention they itched and he couldn't scratch them.
A fellow hunter had banged on his door prior to him leaving, along with three other men he didn't know, telling him about another Varden. A young girl from what they hear. The hunter tried not to get himself too excited, they were in a small town several states up from where his family had been when the Virals attacked, surely someone else with the last name Varden would show up. It wasn't an uncommon name. Although the longing to be with his family once again made him rush. He thanked the messenger and dressed himself, and now here he was, limping off after the men that knocked on his door.
The town had been busy despite the colder weather kicking in. They were dressed heavily with hats and gloves, but Alex hardly noticed as he brushed by them on his way to the heart of Henley, the park. He wore no coat, only a red long sleeve thermal shirt, faded grey jeans and unlaced black work boots he hadn't bothered to tie in his haste. He could see his breath in the air as he looked frantically around for a familiar face. He was sure his heart would have given out before he saw anyone, and the thought of it not being any of his family members made his heart sink. The same hunter who had knocked on his door turned his head with a wide smile on his face, "After she was processed Bobby recognized the last name, Your last name isn't forgotten after that raid you know." He said with a pat on Alex's shoulder. Alex smirked, but wished the hunter would just hurry to the point. He looked forward and turned once more, "She'd left before I could get a chance to talk with her a couple days ago, so when I saw her in the park I though I'd run and tell you before she'd vanish again." The man moved forward once more and then smiled, "Good luck, I hope she's who your looking for." and with that the hunter and his friends turned and left.
Alex nodded but wasted no time, he made his way toward the park, seeing the people who, despite the cold, were still enjoying it. It wasn't until he slipped through the entrance did he spot her face. It was like a splash of cold water on his face. Cassandra. She was standing by the swings, he didn't connect two and two but instead he just screamed her name. "CASS!" he bellowed so loud that several heads turned in his direction. Not caring about his injury he broke into a run. He couldn't contain all the emotions he was feeling now in just seeing one of his sister's faces.
He slowed enough before he got to her, but still the force of man well over six foot with rippling muscles most likely didn't feel very well. He scooped her up so easily it was as if she weighed nothing. He spun her around, kissing her cheeks, her forehead, her nose and squeezing her hard. He didn't even know where to start with the questions, all he knew was that one of his family members was alive and here. He was laughing so hard he couldn't even concentrate, but almost like clockwork the words started to spill from his mouth as he set her back down on the ground, "Where did you come from? Are you alright? What happened? Can I get you anything? Do you have a place to stay? Do you know about anyone else?.... Did you get shorter?"
