IT'S WHERE MY DEMONS HIDE
Hey there! It's Teh with a new character. I'm currently eighteen years old. This new character application is COMPLETE and my lovely new character is played by Liam Neeson.
Thomas Matthias DeWinter
(Male) (33)(straight) (Hunter)
THE RELATIONSHIPS
MOTHER: Victoria DeWinter née Jongejans
FATHER: Peter DeWinter
BROTHERS: Vincent, Niels
SISTERS: Anne, Roos
SPOUSE: unnamed spouse
CHILDREN: several
PETS: n/a
OTHER: n/a
THE APPEARANCE
Thomas had always been plump prior the outbreak. Now, a good ten months after the outbreak ravaged humanity, he has become quite lean and the layers of 'protective cushioning' have all but disappeared due to increased exercise and periods of food scarcity. DeWinter's face is well defined by a strong jaw and bright blue eyes; his light hair is oft cut short and is indeed quite spiky. In terms of his attire little has changed following the pandemic, with the man still preferring to dress simply and appropriate to his daily routine.
THE PERSONALITY
Well read, mild of manners and soft spoken; Thomas is in many ways your typical intellectual. As dedicated a student as he was a professor, over the years he has built up a working knowledge of four languages besides his native Dutch and adopted English, in addition this he is well versed when it comes to the myriad of history related subjects he used to teach. His specialization, however, has come at the cost of great weakness in other subjects. He never took an interest in such American paradigms as football and junk food, making him somewhat of an outsider. Due to his revolutionary views on society and its politics, Thomas was oft styled 'Comrade' DeWinter by his students and colleagues, a nickname that ultimately stuck by him. Those who know him will find that he is honest and highly opinionated as a rule, questioning everything he takes an interest in. Since the outbreak he has taken an increasingly ethical stance on matters pertaining to society, believing that they constitute the majority of all that is left and that it is now the task of the community to safeguard all knowledge of the past - and the future.
THE HISTORY
BIRTHDAY: December 5th
NATIONALITY: Dutch
Born in the Dutch city of Valkenburg on the fifth of December in the year 1979, Thomas was born to a lower class family of coal miners. His father, Peter, evidently, a mine-worker was known for his rigid work ethic and harsh ways. He toiled twelve hour shifts down below and Thomas fondly remembers the lessons taught. Victoria, his mother, worked as a teacher. With his parents working all the time he was cared for by his grandparents during the day. Though having little in terms of material possessions, he had a relatively happy childhood. Attending public school for most of his life, DeWinter fell in line with the 'revolutionary' crowd aged sixteen. He was introduced to the writings of Karl Marx by then girlfriend Aleksandra and joined the CPN's local branch. Following graduation he attended university and gained a degree in history; his favorite subject since early childhood. Thomas forwent the life of an academic, however, and instead pursued a career in teaching. And so he did.
Thomas traveled the world in his early twenties, visiting former East-bloc countries in the early years of the 21st century until, finally, a trip to the United States in 2004 yielded unexpected fruits. He fell in love and following a year of correspondence chose to move to the country permanently. Taking up a teaching spot at a local community college, he never managed to lose his accent and antics - or his attitude toward world affairs. Thus he was often styled 'comrade' for weeks whenever he had gone on a rant during one of his classes. Needless to say, the geopolitical order at that point gave him plenty of ammo and he managed to become - and remain - quite controversial.
He took great pride in his family and prior to the outbreak one would manage to find pictures of his spouse and spawn all over the place - on his desk in his classroom, in his office, in his study, in his wallet - literally all over the place. Thus it would come as no surprise that Thomas, when the plague hit home, took no chances and did what he had to do to protect his wife and children.
