THE APPEARANCE
Cole is a tall man, standing at 6"1 in height. He has broad shoulders and he has an athletic physique that comes from always being on the move. Keeping fit is one of his main priorities, especially now that he hunts the infected almost on a daily basis.
He has short light brown hair and his chin always has a light shade of stubble that he rarely lets grow into a full beard. His eyes generally appear as hazel, but they can also appear green, depending on the light source.
Fashion choice isn't something that concerns Cole much. He's definitely opts for clothes that are comfortable for certain weather conditions and favors clothing that allow him to move easily in. His color palette is very subdued and he can often be seen in shades of black, grey and khaki.

THE PERSONALITY
When first meeting Cole, he can be quite the man of mystery. He's stoic in most situations and can easily be driven by his determination to protect others. While he holds a bit of a vendetta against the infected, his military training has enabled him to put that aside in order to get the job done. Cole is very much a realist who will tell it how it is, no matter how blunt or harsh he may come off as. If it means survival, he will make his opinion heard. However, his stubbornness can prove to be an issue whenever he's dealing with authority. He very rarely enters a situation blindly, but when he does, it's probably due to his stubborn attitude.
Despite his guarded front, Cole is one of the most compassionate and loyal people you will ever meet. The only thing he desires to protect more than the town he lives in is his sister. While he is grateful to be among other humans and not constantly on the run all the time, his sister is the only person he has left. He has a tender side, but only the ones he trusts will get to see the softer side of him, which is difficult because he finds the thought of getting close to someone and letting them in unbearable because he's afraid of losing anyone else.
Not that there's much to laugh about in his current situation, but those who get to know Cole will often find that he has a dry and sarcastic sense of humor. It's almost as if he's forgotten how to be truly happy, that laughing about anything will take away the seriousness of their situation, which can make him come off as uptight at times. Thrown into the mix, is his wit, which shows off his intelligence and years of experiences during conversations.

THE HISTORY
BIRTHDAY: 5th of November, 1981
NATIONALITY: American
Cole Armstrong had a tough upbringing. He was conceived because of a one night stand and left in his fathers care when he was an infant, his mother not wanting to commit to what she saw as a mistake. His father was a low life and a drunk, but took Cole in out of guilt. Due to his fathers drinking problem, Cole found himself in and out of foster homes while the court ordered his father to attend A.A. meetings to help be rid of his drinking problem. Despite having small breakthroughs, his father never stayed off the alcohol permanently, which caused Cole to learn how to be independent fairly early on while growing up in Lawrence, Kansas.
When Cole was six, his father met a woman during one of his sober phases. 'Brenda' was her name. When Mark brought Brenda home to meet Cole, Cole liked her very much. Sure, she was a little rough around the edges, but she warmed to Cole quickly and soon became the mother figure he never had. It didn't take long before she moved in and made the Armstrong household more homey than ever. She brought out the good side within Cole's father, which eased him off the alcohol for months (instead of weeks)...for a while at least.
When Cole was at the age of seven, Brenda gave birth to a baby girl named, Cassidy. Initially, Cole didn't like the fact that all of Brenda's attention wasn't on him anymore, but he eventually caved and fell for the charm of his baby sister. It didn't take long before Cole took on the big brother role, protecting his sister at all costs.
Life went on as normally as it could for a family that came from the poor sides of the tracks. Cole was like a sponge with the way he absorbed knowledge. He was more street smart than book smart, but he didn't completely shy away from the academic side of things, especially when he was old enough to realise that it would be his brains and hard work that would get himself and his imperfect family out of their financial issues...despite his resentment towards his father as he began to gradually slip back into his drinking habit once he and Brenda eventually married.
In high school, Cole found himself among the wrong crowd after he felt the desire to be accepted by his peers, especially after being bullied in middle school for his alcoholic father and being too poor to own the latest materialistic items that were trending back then. Determined not to become an outcast once more, Cole found himself among the rebellious clique after he stole from his fathers liquor stash and shared it with them under the bleachers. From then on, Cole stole all the items he wished to own. He took part in petty crimes, while attending many parties and becoming the object of desire for the ladies, as he barely passed his classes.
Cole's turning point was in his senior year, when his gang almost killed a boy after they set him a dangerous task for him to complete in order to be accepted into the gang. The boy had to jump into a pool at a party from the rooftop, but he tripped and hit his head on the edge of the roof before stumbling into the water. Blood trickled from his skull, causing most of the party guests to flee before the cops came. Out of guilt, Cole stayed behind, pulling the boy out of the water hastily, before checking to see if he was still alive. After a feeling of relief swept over Cole, it wasn't long before Cole tried to flee the scene before being caught by the cops on his way out.
After that, Cole became ashamed of himself, which caused him to ditch his friends, focus on passing high school before joining the army to help get his life back on track. He viewed his high school years as wasted ones and knew that he needed to find himself again so he could get back on the path that would eventually allow him to do something meaningful with his life.
He gave a total of five years of service to the military (including training) and gained many skills including self discipline. He became skilled with weapons and gained a sense of morals and values that put him back on the right track. However, he also experienced a lot of hurt and suffering as he lost fellow soldiers...friends...in the trenches. He became scarred with memories of men and woman dying as they fought for their country. He most certainly couldn't shake the the memories of him taking away the lives of the opposing side.
When he was gratefully spared from war, Cole returned to his hometown of Lawrence, Kansas to find that Brenda has rightly divorced his father after he began getting violent with her and Cassidy. After hearing this news, Cole sought out his father and punched him square in the jaw. He began working at the local mechanics after that, helping Brenda and his sister out with bills whenever he could.
He easily fell into a routine, but often had restless nights where he would have nightmares about the wars he had fought in. However, what he experienced in the wars couldn't quite compare when humanity was taken over by a terrible virus that spread quickly, as if hell had risen to earth, taking all who stumbled in its path.
Once the infected began to spread to Kansas, Cole had to decided between fleeing with his father, the one who had mostly neglected him or fleeing with his step-mother and sister who had made his childhood bearable (pleasant at times, even). Surprisingly, his decision was harder to make than he had initially thought, for he knew that he couldn't just leave his father behind. After collecting his step-mother and sister from their homes (after slaying through a few of the infected to get there) with weapons and a few essential supplies in tow, the three of them drove swiftly through the streets of chaos in order to get to Cole's father's home. Leaving the ignition of his car on, Cole ran up to the house with a shot gun, before kicking down the front door. It wasn't long before Cole's father emerged...only he wasn't human anymore. Cole didn't have much time to take in his father's wild appearance before he came charging towards him with animal-like ferocity. Reflexively, Cole prepared his shot gun for firing in an instant, before launching a bullet into his fathers head, causing him to fall back with a jolt, his blood and brains spraying the wall before he collapsed, motionless on the floor.
Silently, Cole exited his father's home, ignoring his step-mother and sister's questions as he entered the car and sped off to do the one thing he knew how to do: survive.
For a few weeks, Cole and his family aimlessly moved around the country, merely surviving until they could find a more permanent shelter...or inevitably face death. From other survivors along their travels, Cole and his family discovered that there was a guarded safe haven in Pennsylvania, so that's where they aimed to go to seek refuge from the infected.
When it seemed as though they were so close to reaching the safe haven of Henley Falls, Brenda was sadly lost to the virus after being bitten by the infected. Even though Cole was devastated, he knew he had to carry on to protect his sister. It took all his mind strength to put Brenda out of her misery, before he and Cassidy continued on to the safe haven where they were able to enter their own little roles in the small community that Henley Falls created for them. There was no second thought about what job he would take upon himself in the community. He was a survivor and a hunter and the infected were his enemy. He's been obsessed with killing off the infected and protecting the town ever since.
