Standing by the outside gate, Lydia looked out through the fence, her fingers hooked on the woven metal. It was early in the morning, so early that the sky was still dark and only just starting to brighten up. Frost clung to the grass and Lydia's breath was visible in the air. Behind her, other hunters and scavengers were preparing for their raids.
"Hey red!" someone called out to her from the SUV they were going to be taking. Lydia let out a long sigh, resisting the strong urge to roll her eyes at the man. His name was Steve... or something with an S. He was a hunter who seemed to be taking too much interest in Lydia. They were still waiting on their other two team members and if they didn't get there sooner or later, Lydia was likely to slap Steve.
"What?" she asked, doing her best not to sound annoyed. "Come take a look at the map, we should probably work out where we're going to go." He winked at her, only causing her to grind her teeth a little as she approached him.
"The others aren't here yet," she pointed out, glancing at the map he had laid out. He was too pompous for her liking. He was the type who could probably just smile at a girl and get her bra to unsnap. He reminded her entirely too much of boyfriends she had in the past.
"I'm sure they won't mind if we pick out a few locations," he said, giving her a disgustingly charming smile. They were going on a raid and his antics were only going to get them killed. "Yeah, well, we're supposed to be a team, remember?" Lydia stated, putting on her sunglasses as the sun broke through the trees and over the horizon. Some teams were already starting to roll out as Lydia scanned the area.
"Aww, come on red..." he started to say, a little too flirtatious for her liking. "It's Lydia," she practically snapped at him, rolling her eyes behind her shades. Whatever he was saying next, she simply had no idea what it was. She was completely ignoring him. She swore, if they decided to split up on the days raids, she would be going with the other hunter. If someone tried to stick her with Steve... well, she might possibly have to use him as a zombie shield.
Lydia was wearing a pair of dark jeans, tucked into black boots. Her hair was down and straight, for once, and she wore a black winter hat on her head to keep her ears warm. Over top of a purple, long-sleeved shirt, Lydia wore a black, faux leather jacket. Steve was continuing to talk to her, even as she paid him no mind and pulled on a pair of black gloves. There was talk of snow and all of the teams were hoping to be back before nightfall and before the weather got too bad. If the weather got to bad though, they were all instructed to find shelter for the night and head back once the rumored storm cleared up. Supplies were needed and they couldn't risk losing anything that they gathered.
Standing there and growing impatient, she watched as another scavenger came jogging up. He gave her an apologetic smile which she returned halfheartedly. He was a perfectly able scavenger, one that Lydia had worked with before. Now, they were only waiting on one person...

Alex had been rather hesitant about leaving Henley. Not only because of the luck he'd been having on these raids, with the past two ending up with getting himself injured along with others, but instead it was the fact that two of his family members made it to the haven. The thought of leaving both of his sisters behind made him cringe, but if the sheriff sent him out, well there was really nothing he could do about it. He His mind wandered back to a few nights ago when he got the notice that he was going back out on a raid, he shook while telling his sisters. He woke up early that morning to avoid seeing either of them as he left. The last thing he wanted was they're worried faces stuck in his head. He would make it back to them, Lily needed his help more than anyone right now and he wasn't going to let zombies get the best of him.
The dirt crunched beneath his boots as he strode over toward the outside gate and the familiar sounds of packing and gun checks echoed in his brain. He had his hands shoved in his pockets and his head down against the wind. He had a red cap pulled over his head, a thick maroon hoodie with a black leather jacket over top of it. He knew about the storm that was going to blow in, and something in him felt uneasy about it. Worst come to worst they have to stay outside Henley for the night, but just the thought and he knew if it had happened he wouldn't sleep at all. His hands were gloved, but the fingers cut off to make sure he'd be able to use the gun properly. With his mind bitterly distracted, he didn't look up from where he was walking, but instead focused on his breathing. He could see each jet of breath release and dissipate into the air with every exhale and he tried to think of nothing else while walking toward the truck.
Once he got closer, the voices registered and he finally found the energy to look up and see the people he'd be working with. When his heavy eyes landed on Lydia, he stopped and his face changed slightly. She was someone he'd bonded with in a strange way, and he could honestly say he was glad she was coming along with him. He needed someone to talk to, and he found it rather easy to just relax around her. With a chilly gust of wind, Alex let a small smile develop over his features. "Long time no see. You ready to get snowed in?" He said this rather sarcastically, but in all seriousness it could be a huge possibility. He stepped next to her and smirked, having to look down to see her face. "So who's running the show this time around?" He said rather monotone. The tall hunter had not the patience nor the energy to take the role of captain on this raid. He wanted to get in and get out and hopefully not die in the process....

Even Lydia smiled when she saw Alexander and not just because it meant that there was at least one hunter she knew she could get along with without attempting murder. "Of course, I am. I hope you brought some fuzzy slippers to keep your feet warm," she said, matching his sarcasm. If there was one thing Lydia loved, it was sarcasm.
She had to look up at him, just to see his face; he was so tall. That feeling of intimidation once again washed over her, but at the same time, she knew she could trust this man to keep her alive. His size and strength just made her feel that much more protected.... it was odd, really. Lydia wasn't exactly one to put her faith in a man.
She could only roll her eyes at him when he asked who was running the show. "Me. Who else? Do you think I'd let one of you guys boss me around?" She arched a slender brow at him, smiling ever so slightly. The light of her smile actually reached her eyes for once. "Hey red!" she heard behind her, causing her to jut out her jaw a little. "Shouldn't we be rollin' out right about now?" She was going to bitch slap whoever stuck them with such an annoying, man whore of a hunter.
"Shall we?" she asked Alex, obviously annoyed with the other hunter who she had no idea was checking her out from behind as he folded up the map. Heading back to the SUV, she snatched the car keys off of the hood before Steve, or whatever his name was could. There was no way she was letting him drive. Climbing into the driver's side, she started up the engine and waited for the three men to get in...

His blue eyes caught the spark in her eyes when she looked up and smiled at him, and he smirked back at her. "Just making sure you still had enough in you to boss us guys around....Not that I really doubted it faded." He said with a sly smile. The tall hunter looked down at his boots and wiggled his toes, they weren't exactly slippers, but he felt as if they'd keep him more warm than slippers would anyhow. His head snapped up toward the man who screamed red. His brows knit together for a second, and then he arched one while his eyes fell down to Lydia with a questionable look on his face, but he didn't say a word. He saw her jaw slid forward and instantly a smile fell over his face that lit up his otherwise tired features. His teeth shown in this smile and he held back the urge to laugh, this raid would be fun.
"After you my dear." He said raising his eyes to see the other hunter almost drooling over Lydia's backside. As she climbed into the truck, Alex stood where he was and eyed the man, his smile fading and a more serious look crossed it. Something more along the lines of intimidating before he pulled his sunglasses down over his face and made sure he had the passenger seat next to Lydia. He swung into the truck and tried to make himself comfortable before looking behind into the bed of the truck. "I wish I'd come earlier to help pack, I hate not knowing if we have everything or not." He grunted slightly, shifting himself again in the seat.
He trusted Lydia to drive, and always would. Ever since the first raid they went on and the way she drove the truck to get them out a live he couldn't doubt her. He let his eyes slid closed and he thought about the hunter who obviously was trying to impress Lydia. Alex was silent once again, the beast of a man wasn't going to start something, he didn't own Lydia and he was sure she could fight her own battles. The other scavenger was quiet, and Alex instantly liked him because of it. He didn't have a problem with the other hunter so far, but he was sure by the end of the trip he'd want to strangle the guy, that's if Lydia hadn't done it already. His voice was the only thing he heard the whole ride, telling Lydia things she already knew, like how to drive a certain way or brake, oh and the directions even though they'd been driving on one road almost the entire time. Every time he heard Lydia snap at the man and her heavy sighs, he couldn't help but let a smile slip across his face. [/div]

Lydia was honestly relieved when Alexander took the passenger side seat, much to Steve's annoyance. She was almost delighted to see the looks he was shooting Alexander. "I'm a woman, do you really think I would leave without making sure we had everything.... multiple times?" she asked Alex with a pretty smile. It was true too. Lydia never left a place without checking and double checking to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything. She even made sure they had sleeping bags in case they should get stuck out there. "Don't worry, we have everything..."
In no time at all, they were on the road and Steve was testing Lydia's patience. It was taking every ounce of her self control to not slam on the brakes and give him a piece of her mind. Even she couldn't help but snap at him every now and then, though he didn't seem to think that he was annoying her. Eventually, she just gave up on showing him any signs of recognition and ignored him completely. He still wouldn't shut the hell up.
They had been driving for what seemed like forever when they finally reached their destination. A light layer of snow lay across a small, dead town. The only zombies in sight were in the middle of the road up ahead and there was only three. They were feeding on what looked like a dying deer, its blood staining the white snow with red.
"I'll take care of this," Steve said, loading his gun. Turning around suddenly in her seat, Lydia looked like she would kill Steve. "Are you a fucking idiot?" she finally snapped at him. "Fire that gun and you're not just wasting ammo, you could also attract others." The other scavenger, Mike, tried to hide his face as he sniggered at the fact that Lydia was telling Steve off. "Don't use it unless you have to."
Grabbing her pack and whatever weapons she might need, she turned the car off. "Mike, you go with Steve and make sure he doesn't get himself killed. We'll meet you guys back here." Lydia climbed out of the car before Steve could say anything or weasel his way into going with her. She didn't so much as glance his way as Steve and Mike climbed out, Steve giving her an almost longing look before following after Mike.
"How is it he's survived this long?" she asked Alex, letting out a sigh. "Let's get rid of these bastards before we get moving..." She nodded her head toward the three zombies, tearing away at the deer's flesh.

Alex always felt as if he was entering into a different world when they came to they're destination, where ever that may be now a days. Alex pulled his red cap down farther over his brow before opening the door to the parked truck. Stepping out, his boots crunched slightly on the thin layer of snow and the wind seemed to wait for him to step outside the vehicle before it blasted him. With a sour look on his face he watched the two strangers separate from himself and Lydia. He wasn't sure if he felt like playing nice to someone new today, so he was glad Lydia wanted to side with him for the time being, that and he have been offended if she chose Steve over himself anyway.
Stepping toward her, he was doing the usual check of his weapons. The shotgun was strapped to his back along with an assault rifle. He had rows of ammo and several different knives strapped to him. Though he favored the gun, he knew it would be better to save it for later. Nodding at the small red head, he withdrew two different knives from his belt and arched a brow at her. "I think it would be easier that way." He smirked before letting her move toward them first. Alex learned real fast from the last raid how different she was from most scavengers. Sure, she did her job, but at the same time made it hard for the hunters to do their's because she knew how to kill just as well as they did. She didn't hide this fact either, so Alex thought of her as more of a partner than someone he had to protect.
The zombies had been so distracted by the dead animal before them, both Alex and Lydia were able to get within feet from them without them even noticing. The hunter moved first and in one bound he stabbed one of the infected right in the side of the temple, dropping it. He bounced back when the others took notice of him and jumped his way. Alex was still living, which meant he was desirable to these freaks. He threw his second knife at the second zombie, catching the thing right in the eye and as it fell it tripped the other viral. The blonde smiled at his good fortune and let the other one feel Lydia's wrath. Surely she'd take out her anger for Steve on the viral, that was always a good stress reliever. He stood quietly to wait for her next instructions, his breath forming white puffs in the cold air....

Lydia let the body of the zombie hit the ground and she looked at it in disgust for a moment before looking back up at Alex. She was starting to think they actually made a good team. Hell, she wouldn't even mind a permanent partnership between them. With all three zombies dead, she gave him a small, half smile. "Not bad," she said to him, arching a slender brow.
"Let's go," she said, keeping an eye out for any other zombies that could possibly be in the area. Snow was already starting to fall in big, thick snowflakes. If times weren't so morbid, the snowfall really would have been quite beautiful. Their best bet was to look for a general store. They could search nearby houses later and take shelter in one of them for the night if they had to.
The snow was already forming a thin layer of white on the ground. "If we can't make it back by tonight... Steve is sleeping outside," she said, watching the snow. She missed the days of making snow angels and snowmen. The large snowflakes were so detailed that she even stopped a moment to look at them before she remembered that they had a job to do, and a dangerous one at that.

Alex felt a slight stir in his stomach at her instructions. As sexual as it might have been he didn't mind taking orders from her. His tongue went dry for a second at the thought of it and then he picked up on what she was saying about Steve and a smile slid over his face that resembled her's. "And I honestly think only Steve will object to that." He said this with a slight sting to his tone. He hardly knew the man, and didn't mean to judge him so harshly... but in the past couple hours Alex was pretty sure he didn't want to get to know the rest of that man. Alex could be some what of a lady's man, but he didn't need to hang all over woman just to get some like that man probably did, and when a woman wasn't interested he could tell much faster than Steve seemed to.
Alex took steps toward her, his gait was much longer than her own so it only took a few strides to be up along side her. It didn't take long for him to realize he was digging her for more than a killing partner. Whether it was because it had been dry for him sex wise for the past couple of weeks, or he actually was forming some sort of fond feelings for the red head he wasn't sure. The tall hunter kept these feelings to himself and even repressed them more so now while they were on a raid. The last thing he needed was a hard on and have her giving him a weird look. Rubbing the back of his neck, Alex did his best to think about something else before nodding to her voice.
They hadn't run into anything else while in route to the general store. They walked along an over grown road, toward a rather large building. It hadn't been too far from the town houses so if it got really bad they could make it back to the houses before they got snowed in. They really didn't talk much while walking closer to the store. He really had nothing to talk about, all he could think about was his family that had found him and that was really all he wanted to talk about... but he knew this would upset her. Not everyone was as lucky as he'd been.
The doors weren't locked, and this almost made Alex more nervous, but he backed Lydia up as she went inside. "Let's just try not to have a replay to the last raid please." He said almost sourly, but at the same time he knew it wasn't her fault all of that happened. Pulling his shot gun up from around his shoulder he cocked it and had it at he ready while he eyed up the different aisles. A lot of stuff had already been picked clean, but the hunter didn't doubt found at least some things.

Though it was Alex's job to protect her, Lydia kept an eye out for the infected out of habit and her desire to stay alive. She found herself quickening her pace some to keep up with Alex. She wasn't quite surprised that they made it to the general store in one piece, though she was relieved, after what had happened the last time. "Aww, come on," Lydia said with a slight smile. "You just love to spoil a good raid, don't you?" She was teasing him, that much was obvious.
She entered the store with caution, green eyes flickering to and fro. With a quick sweep around the vicinity, they were able to rule out the possibility of any zombies being inside the main part of the store. They could check the store room for supplies when they were done with the rest of the store. It was eerie, how quiet and abandoned the store was. For a moment, Lydia couldn't help but think back to what the store would have been like before the outbreak.
With a heavy intake of breath, she looked back toward Alex. "Watch my back?" she said to him, knowing that he would... although, she didn't think that he would literally watch her backside(because you know he'd at least glance, hehe) as she started filling her bag with useful items she found nearby.
Lydia walk between every row, picking up boxes and anything else that the haven may have needed. "Ooh," she said suddenly, turning into one of the aisles. Candy... a ton of it. "Want some?" she asked Alex, throwing some into the bag. She knew a few kids who would love to get their hands on some and it gave her at least some comfort knowing that she could give them a taste of normalcy.
They had been quiet most of the time. It was in no way an uncomfortable silence. Truth be told, Lydia was just as comfortable not talking to Alex as she was talking to Alex. That wasn't a bad thing at all... it was odd how comfortable she was having him watch over her. She wasn't usually like that, with men especially.
Lydia continued along the aisle, even grabbing a few things for herself before she stopped dead. "Did you hear that?" she asked Alexander, her brows furrowing together as she strained to listen for the noise once more. Zipping her bag so that nothing would fall out if they had to make a run for it, Lydia pulled out her knife, inching her way toward the store room, despite any warning that Alex may have given her to stay put. Still, whatever was making those noises... whatever was back there was alive. Lydia's left hand clasped the handle of the door, ready to pull it open.

He was finding himself walking more than closely behind her, he was practically on top of her. His caution level had risen higher than normal, and way higher than on other missions. He'd known Lydia better than anyone on the raids now. He felt a bigger need to protect her, and that could potentially be a bad thing in the long run. With his blue eyes probably scanning the same exact places Lydia's green ones did, he stayed behind her and kept his guard up while she started to fill her bag. He did get a good glance or two at her backside (lol!), but ultimately was distracted by the constant little noises around him that forced him to think about other things, more of the dangerous kind of things.
It wasn't until Lydia offered him candy did his guard drop somewhat. His blue eyes scanned her child-like face for a moment, he saw it in her eyes. It was quick and was gone before it really stayed, but he saw it. It was enough to pull a smile across his face slightly. She had so much hiding behind those eyes it would be a miracle if he'd ever figure her all out. He shook his head and let her stuff some candy into her bag before they moved on. Staying quiet was something Alex surprisingly knew how to do when he really was focused. This was one of those times since any noise could mean live of death for them out here.
They went down one more aisle before Lydia heard something. The hunter hadn't heard a thing, but quickly got into attack mode after the scavenger claimed something was around. He followed her after failing at keeping her behind him, he was so close that his body brushed up against her back every now and again when she stopped. It got down to the point where Alex was right by her side as they came up to the store door. He was on the other side of the door as she went to reach for the handle, he gave her a look with those strong blue eyes and then let his eyes slid closed for a moment. When she pushed open the door, Alex flew in after her, his blue eyes catching whatever movement there was. The nose of his gun hit flesh and for whatever reason he waited for the commotion in the room to settle before he shot. And for whatever reason the fellow scavenger and Steve's lives was spared. The tall hunter growled slightly as he looked down the barrel of his gun to see the other scavenger's face, the end of the barrel pressed under the man's chin. He looked more than shocked, in fact he looked as if he was going to cry. Alex's jaw jut slightly and he sighed heavily, pulling the gun away with a sharp movement and then shifting it's weight to his shoulder. "Well that could have ended badly." He said, glancing over to see what Lydia had done to Steve....

The two of them burst into the storeroom, and for a moment, nobody knew what was going on. At first, All Lydia saw was a figure coming at her and her instincts kicked in as she slammed her knee right into Steve's groin. One might have argued that she had clearly seen who it was before she hit him, but she wasn't about to admit to that.
Steve hit the ground, crying out in pain and clutching himself. His face was reddening and you could tell he was trying not to cry. She looked up at Alex as he looked over in her direction and shrugged her shoulders innocently. "I thought he was coming at me," she said, trying no to seem too pleased by the fact that Steve was in pain.
Mike visibly relaxed since Alex had lowered his gun. "What happened to you guys going the other way?" Lydia snapped, a little annoyed at the two. They needed to cover ground. "Steve was worried about you guys." You could hear the annoyance toward Steve even in Mike's voice. This knowledge, in all honesty, made Lydia want to turn back around and kick Steve again. She certainly believed that he was worried about them.... he was worried that something would happen between Alex and Lydia. The mere thought caused color to rise in her cheeks. Rather than offer Steve any help, she stepped over him. "We should get back to work. We have a lot of ground to cover." With her hands on her hips, she waited for the other two to get the hell out of there.

Alex eyed the scavenger for a moment before looking at the hunter on the ground, still red in the face and lying in his own agony. With a heavy sigh, Alex said with a gruff tone, "I hope you aren't doubting my protective nature." Alex said this more so for everyone to hear before he too stepped over Steve, tossing the gun up over his shoulder once again. He watched Lydia and then eyed the ground while she spoke. What she said was true and he eyed the men one more time before they both shuffled they're way out of the small room, Steve seeming slightly off in his walking now that his balls had probably been kicked up into his stomach.
After a few seconds of silence Alex cleared his throat and blinked, making sure he was looking at the new found leader before speaking, "He wants it in your pants so badly, you know." He said this in a serious tone, and then cracked a small smirk a couple seconds later. Strapping his gun back to him, he arched his brow and then rubbed the back of his neck, "What know. We have a lot of ground to cover, but I figure I'd let you decide where to go next.... I don't want to be walking like Steve is." He said, wincing slightly at the thought.

TIME SKIP
The snow was so heavy that Lydia was surprised they had even been able to find a place to stay. Looking outside, you could hardly even see three feet in front of you. The SUV was as full as they could possibly get it and they even managed to pack some things on top. They'd found a house nearby to take shelter in and parked the SUV in the garage for safe keeping. After such a long day, Lydia was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to take a nice, hot shower.
Once everything in the house was turned on and the place started to warm up a little, Lydia made her way upstairs. They had already done a thorough sweep of the house, to discover it was clear of any walkers. With the men downstairs, doing whatever men do together, Lydia found the bathroom and shut the door behind her. Turning on the water and letting the steam fill the room, she stripped down and raided the linen closet for towels.
She was dong just about anything to avoid Steve. At least if he followed her into the bathroom, she had a perfectly good excuse to murder him. Climbing into the shower after giving it a good rinse down, she let the hot water just run over her. For a moment, she considered saving some hot water for the guys, but thought twice about that. She wasn't getting out of there until the water turned to ice.

The blond hunter had made it clear what room would he his for the night, it was farthest away from everyone, especially the other hunter who seemed to get more and more obnoxious as time went on. Alex was a friendly person in general, and he tried his best to tolerate people as best as he could. Sometimes things just got to a point where he decided it wasn't worth it to try and be nice anymore. This was one of those times. Growing up in North Carolina, Alex really wasn't used to that much snow. Sure, NC got some flurries now and then, but it was far enough south that storms like this didn't happen. So not to mention the storm which was already making his cranky, now he was cramped in a house with people. It wasn't the two scavengers that were bothering him, Steve had been the only one so far... but that was enough to send him into a tailspin. He slid past Steve for what seemed like the sixth time and the guy still continued to follow after him and ramble about more stupid things that he didn't care about. Assuming Alex wanted to be buddy bro's or something the dark haired hunter started talking about the last time he'd gotten laid and something else, Alex wasn't really listening but instead focusing on trying to keep the fire going in the furnace.
The man kept up his talking and his voice was starting to get old and fast. Blinking a few times, Alex let his eyes close for a few seconds before standing up from his crouch and turn toward the hunter who talked as much as a preteen after her first kiss. He towered over the guy, his blue eyes growing darker with each second that past. "Look, I don't care about the name of the last girl you fucked and whether she had a mole on her ass or not." His tone was agitated but Steve just laughed as if he was joking with a friend. "Oh you must just be jealous man, jeez... haven't gotten any lately or something?" Steve said joking nudging Alex's shoulder, pulling back with a hesitant laugh when Alex didn't move a muscle. He looked as if he might punch Steve to the floor, but instead he turned away and shook his head in an annoyed way. "No, I haven't, but I'm sure it won't be as hard for me as it must be for you.." He said over his shoulder as he walked out of the living room.
He needed to get away from the noise... which would only be Steve at this point so it wasn't too hard to get away from it. Walking down the hallway, he stopped for a second and tilted his head slightly. He heard the shower running and then it hit him. She was going to use all the hot water and he knew it. Muttering something under his breath he flew to the steps and ran up them two at a time. He didn't know the house all that well, and he almost ran past the bathroom, but instead skidded to a stop and turned the handle. The door was locked, so he turned the handle as much as possible and then threw his weight into it, breaking the lock easily. He jumped into the steamy bathroom and cried out in pure joy. "Sweet jesus it's nice in here!" He bellowed this on purpose to scare the shit out of her. Alex bit his lip and thought for a second or two how to get her out of the shower. "I hope your not planning on using all the hot water!" He said, taking a seat on the toilet with a grin plastered to his face.....

Lydia just about jumped out of her skin at the sound of someone breaking through the door and screaming. Letting out her own scream of surprise, she nearly slipped in the shower. The glass door of the shower was... well, it was just that: a glass door, perfectly see through. Grabbing her towel and throwing it around her naked body, she opened the shower door, glaring at the man sitting on the toilet. "GET OUT!" she yelled at him, more out of embarrassment than anything else.
Grabbing a nearby hand towel, she started smacking him with it, holding onto her towel tightly so that it didn't slide off and give him a show. "YOU STUPID, STUPID, MAN WHORE, GET. OUT. NOW." She smacked him across the face with the towel. As she was coming at him though, she slipped on a wet spot on the floor, falling onto Alex. Letting out a squeak of surprise as she fell, she nearly lost her grip on the towel... nearly.
